Summer 2021

Bringing Home the Fun in Summer 2021!

If you would like an alternative to in-person camps and our weekly rental kits, our Museum@Home monthly kits are what you need.

The Children's Museum of Yuma County offers our at-home hands-on STEAM kits on a monthly basis this year. It's a fun way for us to stay connected with you, and for your children to play, learn, and have fun this summer.

STEAMing to your home to SPARK your creativity and curiosity!

How it works:
Each month this summer, a new kit will be available for a $30 fee.

With your kit purchase, you get:

  • Most materials you need for the activities for use with 2 children
  • Activities and directions to be completed with adult supervision/guidance for children PreK-3rd Grade and independently for 4th-6th grade children
  • Suggested activities for some of the "national days" (such as National Ice Cream Day and Cheer Someone Up Day)

Steps to take:
1.    Register on Givesmart and pay for the kit
2.    Kits will be available for pick up at 180 W. 1st St. (follow the signs to the east side door where kits will be distributed) on Tuesdays from 11:30 am-12:30 pm and 5-6pm

Frequently Asked Questions?

How do we get our activity kits?
We will have the kits ready for distribution on Tuesdays 11:30am-12:30pm and 5-6pm at the Yuma Heritage Center (Old City Hall) at 180 W. 1st St starting Monday, June 7. Follow the signs to the east side door where the kits will be distributed.

Are these kits for very young children?
No. There are small parts, items that stain, and ingredients that shouldn't be put in the mouth. Our kits are recommended for children with a developmental age of at least 3-4 years old. Parental supervision and guidance is required. Please visit our Facebook page for free activity content, some of which will be for very young children.

I have older children. Will these kits interest them?
Although we say the target ages are PreK-5th grade, we include activity suggestions the whole family can enjoy together.

Do I need a separate kit for each child in my family?
The kits have enough materials for two children, but you might find that additional children are able to share the materials and participate together.

Are these activities messy?
Some of the activities will allow you to make a mess. Learning from making a mess and then cleaning up are both important skills for kids to practice.

Last year's kits had videos that went with them. Will there be videos this year?
Our videographer from last summer has moved, and we're also doing additional content this summer that will stretch our staff members availability. Because of that, we most likely won't have videos for the activities in your kit, but might offer some from time to time.

This registration page shows that the kits are sold out. What do I do?
We will place your name on a waiting list. Please email [email protected] your contact information so that we can reach you if we make additional kits later in the summer. Due to limited staffing, we might not be able to offer additional kits.

I live or would like to send a kit to someone outside of Yuma. Will you ship a kit?
Shipping costs are prohibitively expensive for these kits, so we won't be offering shipping this summer.

Our family or business is interested in sponsoring a kit. Do you accept sponsorships or donations to give kits to groups serving special populations of kids?
Yes! We love sponsorships and donations. Please contact us at [email protected]  for more information about these opportunities.

I'd like to make a general donation to the museum. How do I do that?

All donations are used to help our organization grow and serve the community. Please donate on the page where the kits are available.

Why isn't the museum opening this summer?
Children's Museums around the world are beginning to reopen. We are currently renovating our future year-round home at 200 S. Main St. in downtown Yuma. We don't currently have a date set for our grand opening, but follow us on social media and we'll publicize the date as soon as it's set. We can't wait to show you our new space!
